I went for a cruise in the Hybrid and was really impressed with the drive & was surprised on how quit it was, you really need to check out the dash and all the information. 41 MPG City & The Fusion is capable of more than 700 miles on a tank of fuel. Able to run on pure electric (275 Volt Nick-metal hydride Ni-MH battery pack) up to 47.

2010 Ford Fusion Hybrid Best in Class

2010 Ford Fusion Hybrid, comes with a long list of options from the SEL Gas version plus several Hybrid unique parts and gage cluster, Plus also beating the competition. The best fuel economy of any perceived mid-size sedan. It has an EPA city/highway rating of 41/36 miles per gallon.

The Toyota Prius hybrid is mid-size, and it manages 48/45 miles per gallon on the EPA's city/highway cycle. But it is marketed and perceived by most consumers as a compact.

That leaves the mid-size Toyota Camry (33/34), Nissan Altima (35/38) and Chevrolet Malibu (26/34) as the Fusion Hybrid's direct competitors.

Honda had a hybrid Accord, but dropped it because of poor sales. Honda still sells the Civic Hybrid, a compact with a rating of 40/45, which beats the Fusion on the highway. But the Fusion has a higher city rating.

The Fusion's regenerative braking system, which recovers up to 94 percent of braking energy (the electric motor does the bulk of the braking, turning into a generator and using the recovered power to recharge the battery pack). Thus brake pads are expected to last three to five times longer.

Ford stacked the battery pack behind the rear seat. That still allows for a large trunk. The "battery" actually is 208 individual cells the size of a household 'D' cell.

The Fusion can reach 47 mph on electric power alone – provided you have the right touch on the throttle.

You don't feel the gasoline engine kick in or cut out because of the power train control module is calibrated to ease the transition.

Oil change intervals are expected to be at 10,000 miles because the engine does only half the work in this hybrid configuration.

An eye on Detroit: NAIAS '09 - Day 1

Keeping an eye on the competition in Cobo today... guess which manufacturer's car this is from?

Judging by the response of some auto makers, you'd have thought this year's Detroit autoshow wouldn't be worth the effort. However, judging by twitter chatter, mainstream news coverage and the response of people on the ground, hell hasn't actually frozen over (its only Detroit's pavements) and those that ventured to the Cobo Hall today for the start of the North American International Auto Show 2009, were rewarded with some treats and surprises.

This show was always going to be about certain North American manufacturers proving to a skeptical American public they deserved bailout money, and for every other manufacturer, a chance to prove the auto industry wasn't actually on its knees, and could still deliver the vision, and kick-ass products that would make people open their wallets. DETROIT--Ford Motor Co. wants to use social-networking sites such as Facebook to generate buzz for its new Fiesta subcompact. But it will rely on company outsiders to get the early word out. Although the Fiesta doesn't go on sale in the United States until early next year, Ford is putting the car in the hands of 100 Internet-savvy consumers for long-term test drives beginning in April.

The consumers, who will be chosen after applying at www.fiestamovement.com, will then relate their experiences through social networking sites such as Facebook, Flickr, and YouTube.

OK, let's just get it out there: The 2010 Ford Fusion hybrid is the best gasoline-electric hybrid yet.
What makes it best is a top-drawer blend of an already very good midsize sedan with the industry's smoothest, best-integrated gas-electric power system. It's so well-done that you have to look to the $107,000 Lexus LS 600h hybrid to come close. Fusion's $28,000 starting price is more or less in reach, the driving feel is good, and the interior has a premium look and feel.
There are three facets to consider in evaluating a gasoline-electric hybrid: the underlying vehicle itself, the hybrid system and the mileage.

new study shows that Ford’s SYNC hands-free system1 significantly reduces the level of distraction when drivers select a phone number or choose a song on their MP3 player compared with the same operations with handheld cell phones and music players.
For example, the research conducted by Ford Motor Company shows study participants spent an average of 25 seconds with their eyes off the road to select a song with a handheld MP3 player as compared with 2 seconds for those choosing a song using SYNC.
